Hacked Instagram Account? Methods For Regaining It

On March 9, 2023 by Bryan Campbell

Affected Are Even Instagram Users

It’s comforting to believe that you’ll be safe from hackers. Nonetheless, everyone is susceptible to their account being hacked online. Last year on August the 13th, hundreds of Instagram accounts was hijacked by hackers that were purportedly headquartered in Russia. Several users were impacted since they were suddenly unable to access their accounts.

The hackers then exchanged personal information like passwords and usernames, which left a lot of Instagrammers with different profile images than they started off with, typically from popular movies. If there is a silver lining, what is it? It’s not all gloom and doom if this happens to you; let’s talk about what you can do.

You’ve Been Hacked, Yet You Managed to Access Instagram

Perhaps you’ve figured out that you can still log in to Instagram, but you’ve seen some strange things showing up on your feed. Alternatively, people are commenting on posts using your account when you didn’t write them. You should change your password immediately if you can still access your account but are concerned about suspicious activity like this.

Enter your profile and look for the settings menu.

Locate the option labelled “Privacy and Security,” and then update your password. Third-party app access can be disabled in Approved Applications to prevent account hijacking.

Your Instagram Account Has Been Hacked, But You Can’t Sign In
Even if you’ve been entirely locked out of your account, there’s still a way to access its contents. Simply click on the ‘get assistance signing in’ option that you’ll see on your log in page and discover the portion that lets you reset your password.

The procedure differs from one kind of electronic equipment to another. On an iPhone, tap the ‘need more assistance’ link. An Android device’s navigation bar includes a rightward-pointing arrow icon. As you can see, logging in is a breeze regardless of the device you’re using.

Your Instagram Has Been Hacked, and Your Email Has Been Modified.

So, your Instagram’s been hacked, your password is different, and your email has been updated. While it appears daunting at first, this problem can be easily solved. Just check your inbox to see whether the hacker who made the changes emailed you. The reason for this is that Instagram would have notified you through email if a hacker had attempted to alter your email address.

No Instagram Email?

There are still choices open to you if you missed out on the Instagram email. Both of these may be found on the login assistance page, and if you’ve linked your Instagram and Facebook accounts, you can use Facebook to reset your password and retrieve your lost email address.

You may use Facebook to sign in on Android by clicking the “get assistance signing in” link on the login screen. Locate the “continue as” button for Facebook on your iPhone, and then sign in with your Facebook credentials. If you know your account information, you can modify them after logging in.

If you provided your cellphone number while creating your Instagram account, you may use it to make changes to your profile. Choose the phone option under the “get assistance signing in” page. If none of those options work, Instagram support is your next best bet.

If and when your account is reinstated

When you can access your account again, there are a few things you need do to get it running smoothly again. If your password is the same as one used on another service, such as Facebook or Twitter, you should change it immediately.

To prevent this, it’s a good idea to switch up your password every so often. Hackers will often attempt the same one across many entry points. You should also change your passwords for all of your accounts to something strong, delete anything that might be construed as improper from your feed, and let your followers know that you were hacked so they can keep an eye out for any more suspicious behaviour.

How to Reduce the Risk of Having Your Account Hacked in the Future
After regaining access to your account, take measures to ensure it is not compromised again. To determine whether or not you are the target of a targeted attack, you should first see if any of your email accounts have been compromised in the past.

After that, you should activate Instagram’s two-factor authentication. Every time you log in, a unique verification code will be given to your phone through text message. You’ll locate ‘authentication app’ option in settings.

Always Be Careful

Thankfully, there are many various methods that you may be cautious when using your Instagram, to prevent future difficulties with hacking. Let’s have a look:
